MoCA L.I.ghts Call for Artists 2025

Click the button below each image to review the specific call for art and submsission form!

LED: Light Evoking Dreams – 100 Years of Surrealism
MoCA L.I.ghts VI will transform the Village of Patchogue into a luminous dreamscape—where time bends, objects breathe, and the imagination reigns.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Surrealism, we invite artists working in digital media, video, and projection art to submit works inspired by dreams, the unconscious, and the surreal.MoCA L.I.ghts is seeking works that awaken the irrational, embrace the uncanny, and drift freely through dream logic. Inspired by the legacy of artists like Dalí, Carrington, and Magritte, as well as contemporary visionaries such as Julie Curtiss, Nathaniel Mary Quinn, and Inka Essenhigh, we will light up the night with moving, morphing visions that slip between waking life and the dream world.

In collaboration with the Patchogue Theatre of Performing Arts, a rotating series of artist-created videos, gifs, animation, and/or digitally created still works by artists will be presented on the marquee of the Patchogue Theatre. Artists are invited to submit site-specific works to be displayed on the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts digital marquee. Works need to meet specific specs to be considered, please review the guidelines carefully.

If you want to learn more about how to create an animation GIF that you can then submit for possible inclusion in this opportunity you can watch a number of different virtual labs created by 2020, 2021, 2022, & 2023 MoCA L.I.ghts Artists! To find them visit PatchogueArts.org and visit the MoCA L.I.ghts Virtual Lab link under PAConnected.

This exhibition will run on the marquee from October – December 2025, and will be included in all MoCA L.I.ghts® events taking place October 23 – 28, 2025. Exact run times TBA

ART ON THE MARQUEE® is part of the Patchogue Arts Council MoCA L.I.ghts 2025 program.

As the days get shorter and darker the Village of Patchogue will begin to glow again, transforming the downtown into an open air museum as the Patchogue Arts Council presents MoCA L.I.ghts 2025. This program includes a series of compelling, site-specific artist-designed light works that include projection, video, animation, and gifs. Installations will take place on the facades of various architecture, the Patchogue Theatre marquee, and our pop-up projected galleries. A live broadcast of MoCA L.I. events will take place on social media!

One of our favorite locations for MoCA L.I.ghts, is our very own facade. For 2025 the facade of PAC • MoCA L.I. will be dedicated to the artists we serve! Submit your work for possible inclusion in a special projection LIGHTS ON MoCA L.I. When submitting your work keep in mind the facade is a long, thin vertical composition. Works may be cropped. By submitting your work for possible inclusion you are giving PAC the right to crop the work as needed for the projection. You can see a visual example in the image above.

LIGHTS ON MoCA L.I. | A rotating series of works will be curated from an international open call. This exhibit will take place during the peak of MoCA L.I.ghts activities, October 23 – 28, 2025, each night from 6:00 – 11:00 PM.

NIGHT VISIONS | pop-up projected gallery screens will be placed in various locations throughout the Village of Patchogue creating an immersive art gallery experience for the community. Works by selected artists will be projected and screened at selected downtown locations including Roe Walkway Plaza and screened at Plaza Cinema. This exhibit will take place during the peak of MoCA L.I.ghts activities

CALL FOR NIGHT VISIONS

A new call for MoCA L.I.ghts 2025 inspired by our event graphics!

Anaglyph art is a form of stereoscopic 3D art that creates the illusion of depth when viewed through specially colored glasses, typically red and cyan. It involves overlapping two slightly offset images, each rendered in a different color (usually red and cyan), and then using corresponding colored lenses to filter the images for each eye. This creates a 3D effect as the brain interprets the slightly different perspectives as a single three-dimensional image.

ANAGLYPHS @ MoCA L.I.ghts | MoCA L.I.ghts 2025 will feature anaglyph works printed and displayed in outdoor spaces throughout the Village of Patchogue during the festival period! PAC will be printing and placing them once selcted from the open call. 3d viewing glasses will be available through out the event!
