This year, we will all see the 250th anniversary of the USA’s independence, a quarter millennium of cultural evolution, technological innovation, scientific discovery, and so much more. As this time has marched on, the arts, too, have welcomed a progression of human expression from pigment and chisel to printing press and camera to electricity, projection, and immersive light, which has guided our collective consciousness. In celebration of where our work has come from and where it will go next, MoCA L.I.ghts 2026 Antiquity to Innovation will highlight the technologies that are ushering artists into this new quarter millennium that we’re embarking on, while honoring the history of advancements from which they were created.
Artists are invited to submit works that explore the evolution of traditional materials and their translation into digital media. Methods such as stop motion, claymation, hand-drawn animation, rotoscoping, collage animation, experimental film, and mixed-media video are encouraged, though submissions are not limited to these forms.
Art on the Marquee

In collaboration with the Patchogue Theatre of Performing Arts, a rotating series of artist-created videos, gifs, animations, and/or digitally created still works by artists will be presented on the marquee of the Patchogue Theatre. Artists are invited to submit site-specific works to be displayed on the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts digital marquee. Works need to meet specific specs to be considered. Please review the guidelines carefully.
If you want to learn more about how to create an animation GIF that you can then submit for possible inclusion in this opportunity, you can watch a number of different virtual labs created by 2020, 2021, 2022, & 2023 MoCA L.I.ghts Artists! To find them, visit PatchogueArts.org and visit the MoCA L.I.ghts Virtual Lab link under PAConnected.
This exhibition will run on the marquee from October – December 2026, and will be included in all MoCA L.I.ghts® events taking place October 22 – 26, 2026. Exact run times TBA
ART ON THE MARQUEE® is part of the Patchogue Arts Council MoCA L.I.ghts 2026 program.
Lights on MoCA L.I.

One of our favorite locations for MoCA L.I.ghts, is our very own facade. For 2026 the facade of PAC • MoCA L.I. will be dedicated to the artists we serve! Submit your work for possible inclusion in a special projection LIGHTS ON MoCA L.I. When submitting your work, keep in mind the facade is a long, thin vertical composition. Works may be cropped. By submitting your work for possible inclusion, you are giving PAC the right to crop the work as needed for the projection. You can see a visual example in the image above.
As the days get shorter and darker, the Village of Patchogue will begin to glow again, transforming the downtown into an open-air museum as the Patchogue Arts Council presents MoCA L.I.ghts 2026.
