Reflections: Photographs by Chris Zec
While photography began for me as a means of personal retreat from the rigors of business ownership and raising eight children, it quickly ignited a passion to find and preserve fleeting moments of intrinsic stillness and beauty. The native beauty of Long Island provides endless opportunity for capturing serene scapes and stills with compositions ranging from realistic to abstract to minimalist. My desire in offering this work to the public is to share these unearthed gems of serenity with others who are equally hungry for peace in a harried world.
My background as a geologist and my deep love for the natural world fuel my work, whether portraying panoramic grandeur or simply reframing the mundane. Being extremely near-sighted, I cherish the window to the world that digital photography has opened for me; seeing the images emerge onto my monitor brings immense satisfaction. For me, the hours spent behind the lens are both renewing and fulfilling.
Chris Zec is a native Long-Islander currently residing in Farmingville, NY with his wife of over twenty-five years and an ever-changing assortment of their eight children and Boxer. He supports his family through commercial and residential painting, a career that affords him time for quiet reflection and complements his introspective nature. That same need for stillness coupled with a life-long love of both creativity and technology work together to fuel his interest in digital photography and have yielded a serene and unique portfolio. Though self-taught as a photographer, he holds a B.S. in Geology from SUNY Stony Brook: together these spur him in the quest for uncovering and capturing nature at its finest.
