Performance art is a genre where the artist’s and possibly others actions performed in front of an audience are essential to the artistic statement. It has its roots in the early 20th century avant-garde movements Futurism and Dadaism and was popularized in the 1960’s and 70’s when it was closely associated with body art, conceptual art, happenings and later with video art. During this session we will explore the history and trends in performance art.

Light art has evolved with technology. Natural light has been used for effect in architecture throughout human history. With development of artificial light came the first light based sculpture to be followed by neon. The 1960’s saw the development of a light-space movement. Currently artists are using digital technology to create projection mapping. During the session we will explore the historical progeression of technology and light art.

American Art in it is broadest sense spans two continents and thousands of years. In this first look at the art of the Americas a broad survey of art will be presented. Topics included will be prehistoric art, art of the Pre-Columbian civilizations and the art of tribal peoples both before and after European and US colonization. We will explore pictographs, pyramids, gold ornaments, totem pole, ceramics and ceremonial clothing.
