Learning to Look | Art as Propaganda
Monday, September 18 @6:30 PM
with John Cino
Propaganda is simply defined as the “manipulation of information to
influence public opinion.” During the 20th century it was put to
widespread use with often disastrous consequences. The term was coined
in the 17th century but examples of propaganda can be seen in the
earliest civilizations. Propaganda can be delivered through any
media. During this presentation we examine examples of propaganda
through the annals of art history from Sumeria through the 20th
century. Special consideration will be given to the work of the Nazi
Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda.
