Jessica McAvoy is an emerging visual artist who has extensively studied the work of the Spanish Romantic artist Francisco de Goya. Through her series of charcoal drawings titled ‘Fowl Follies,’ she explores and discusses her visceral reaction to Francisco de Goya’s ‘Black Paintings.’ McAvoy has traveled to Madrid multiple times to study the techniques employed by Goya that enable the works to create an emotional connection to the viewer. With each visit she would develop a new understanding and a new desire to translate her reaction in her own works. McAvoy’s drawings are an expression of a visual intrigue that speaks to her own personal sensibility to light and atmosphere by the manipulation of the surface through adding and removing layers of warm or cool toned charcoals as well as exploring line variation. www.jessicamcavoy.com
