National Park Service Accepting Applications for 2017 Artist-in-Residence Program at Fire Island National Seashore
The National Park Service is seeking applicants for the 2017 Artist-in-Residence program at Fire Island National Seashore. Artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply by the February 17, 2017 deadline to be considered for one of the four, two-week residencies being offered.
“Fire Island’s dynamic landscapes, beach communities, and maritime heritage provide compelling subjects,” said Seashore Chief of Interpretation and Education Kathy Krause “and have inspired our artists-in-residence to create incredible place-based works.” This program is an opportunity for emerging and professional artists of all disciplines to spend time living in the park while developing a body of work inspired by the culture, history, or natural environment on Fire Island. Artists will be selected through a juried application process based on their artistic merit and project proposal.
Thirteen artists from disciplines including visual art, sound art, literary art, and mixed media have participated in the Seashore’s program since its 2013 launch. Participating artists-in-residence contribute to the park’s public outreach efforts by conducting presentations, workshops, and/or showcasing their work in an exhibit.
