2019 Founder’s Gala – Luau for the Arts
Honoring John and Kathleen Cino
June 9 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM
The Patchogue Arts Council is excited to celebrate the service and dedication of John and Kathleen Cino. 2019 marks 11 years of dedication to the Patchogue Arts Council and the arts on Long Island. The Cino’s have been a part of every phase from conception to the newly defined Museum space, MoCA L.I. of the Patchogue Arts Council. Without their generosity, volunteerism, and passion PAC would not be what it is today.
Please join us in celebrating these two amazing people and their contribution to the arts on June 9 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at the 2019 Founder’s Gala: Luau for the Arts. This event will include Hawaiian inspired fare, Beer, Wine, Live Music, Sculpture Burning and more. Tickets are $80, $70 if you are a PAC member. This event will be held at the lovely home of Dr. Kathryn Ko & Gil Romao. Sponsorships, journal ads, and a special page for “Friends of John & Kathleen Cino” are also available.

About Our Honorees
John Cino
After taking his first class in sculpture at Stony Brook University, John Cino knew that he would be making art for the rest of his life. Earning degrees at Stony Brook and then a Masters of Fine Art at CUNY Hunter College, John has since worked in many levels of art education from middles school to Masters, while he continued developing his sculptural practice. After moving with his family to Patchogue he learned the value of community, participating with his two sons in all their extra-curricular activities. Once parental responsibilities were minimized John turned his community activism towards his passion for art. In 2008 he helped create the Patchogue Arts Council as a founding member and spearheaded some of their most ambitious initiatives. The Patchogue Biennials of 2009 and 2011 raised eyebrows across the Long Island arts community. Never letting his studio practice fade, he was awarded NY state grants in 2013 and 2014 to produce installation and performance-based sculptures. In 2014 he received the SBU Alumni Award from Stony Brook University for service to the cultural arts on Long Island. In 2018 he received an Award of Merit from The Heckscher Museum for his sculpture in the Long Island Biennial. During the past decade, he has been gratified to meet and exhibit so many talented artists on Long Island and beyond. John feels that his accomplishments could not be achieved without the love and support of his best friend and wife Kathy, aka Dr. Kathleen Cino, Ph.D. for whom he is both grateful and proud.
Kathleen Cino married John in 1982 and began her career in nursing the same year at Bellevue Hospital in the intensive care area. Kathleen and John had 2 sons, Josh and Pete, and relocated to Patchogue as a young family. Kathleen began working at Brookhaven Hospital in the Emergency Department and learned to love life in Patchogue. When Kathleen realized she loved teaching nursing she began her doctoral studies and earned her Ph.D. in nursing at Adelphi University and a Post Master’s certificate in Holistic Nursing from The College of New Rochelle. Kathleen studies holistic methods of pain management for older adults and teaches nursing at Farmingdale State College. Kathleen is most proud of her family and is thrilled to welcome young Jiovanni Ray Cino into the family.

ABOUT MoCA L.I.
Museum of Contemporary Arts Long Island (MoCA L.I.), is the newly defined exhibition space of the Patchogue Arts Council (PAC).
By redefining PAC’s exhibition space from Gallery to Museum, opportunities for the community and the artists we serve grows exponentially. PAC has always been unconventional in comparison to other arts councils. Our main focuses are to make current and contemporary art accessible to everyone and service artists across Long Island. We are working to create inclusiveness in all of our opportunities. Through our exhibition programming, we support, promote, and encourage early, mid-career, and established artists that work in all media and all walks of life.
The caliber of career-enriching opportunities that we provide Long Island-based artists is previously unheard of in Suffolk or Nassau County. We don’t charge artists to submit or participate. Instead, we give stipends that assist in the costs of creation and development of our exhibitions.
